Methods and sources
How the tools work, and which books they follow.
Our rule
The classics decide. Where sources disagree, the page says which one we followed and why. Other software and websites are only leads, and our code is our own.
Tools and sources
Four Pillars: 《淵海子平》 and 《滴天髓闡微》 cases, with the calendar worked out from astronomy.
Purple Star: 《紫微斗數全書》 and published charts.
I Ching casting: The 《周易》 text. Coin and yarrow odds follow the traditional methods.
Plum Blossom: 《梅花易數》.
Xiao Liu Ren: 「李淳風六壬時課」 in 《玉匣記》.
Moon Blocks: 《演繁露》 for the good result; temple practice for the rest.
Daily Almanac: 《協紀辨方書》, rebuilt from its written rules. Its day-by-day tables are not yet checked, so treat results as under review.
Chinese Zodiac: 《協紀辨方書》 卷一 and 卷六.
Kua Number: 《八宅明鏡》 and 《協紀辨方書》 卷二.
What we still need to check
Several online transcriptions have not been compared with printed editions. Each tool’s guide lists its open points.
Calculation
Charts and readings run in your browser. Solar terms and calendar dates are calculated, not looked up from a website.
